The Observer’s Paul Harris goes to the agricultural lands of California to talk about immigration and the labor of undocumented workers. The text of the story is here, the video is here.

Observer Immigration

I think this illustrates well how, from the point of view of labor demand, the “export-em-all” agenda of the right just makes no sense.

I also liked this little tidbit from the end of the text article. Talking to Ken Doty, a Californian rancher, he reports:

One branch of Doty’s own family can trace his family back to the Mayflower, the ship that brought the Pilgrim Fathers from England. He added with a laugh: ‘They didn’t have any legal papers with them.’

I know, I know, different times, blah blah blah, but it’s important to remind people sometimes that compared to what they’re asking current immigrants to do in order to “deserve” their place here, their own ancestors had it easy.
